So, I´ve spent 33 years of life without knowing much about this great man, after whom I was actually named. Of course, I knew basic thing we did learn at school but nothing more, you know, there's always so much information in any school program...

Caesar´s story is a story of a very ambitious man, politician, orator and general. Stern and generous, a brave leader and a very talented person. He stood his ground when Silla (or Sulla), the most powerful man in Rome of the time wanted him to leave his wife connected with Marius, Silla´s biggest rival. Being captured by pirates he was treated as a superior because of his demeanour. He overcame his rival Pompey and became the most powerful man in all Roman Empire. And with all his power he was generous with the soldiers and generals who fought against him and pardoned their lives. Even gave some offices of honor in Rome sometime afterwards. He helped Cleopatra to seize the throne in Egypt. He changed the calendar to basically what we know nowadays (except a small change in 1582). The only thing he didn't learn was to choose his friends cautiously.

Anyway, I always admired the man and I found this book anything but boring. Do you know the feeling, when you know that a story doesn't end very well but still you hope it to turn to a surprising deliverance? Ok, so I knew Caesar would die betrayed by his "friends" and still hoped the end would change :) It didn't and I felt really sad. The book ended there and I needed to know what happened to all those traitors (I wished them really bad karma after what they did) and I rejoiced to know (sorry) that all of them died in a violent way and one even killed himself with the same sword he used to attack Caesar.

One thing is sure, the human nature didn't change a bit during the last 2000 years. Envy and violence are still present in many hearts, and they long to get out of the way some more talented and ambitious people...
