If you are one of those historical novel lovers-this book is for you. If you prefer a romantic theme, here you will find it for sure. Fancy some adventure? No problem! What about some love triangles, religion insurrection, feasts and gladiator battles, natural disaster? Have I captured your attention?

So through this extensive book we will live the last days of the vast glory of Pompeii and its citizens . The main characters: the bautiful Ione, the Athenian Glaucus and the blind slave Nydia will show you a colorful day to day of the Roman reality. I was surprised by the natural mix of so many themes in one book. The expansion of the new religion: Christianity and the persecution it must suffer. The rich and the poor. The free citizens and the slavery. The Roman Empire and the conquered nations. Love, why not, selfish or pure. Tradition of the ancestors and the new influence.

What was not so bright for me? Some secondary characters are just few mentions and we cannot know about their final fate. Some descriptions are a bit long and unnessary.

What did I love the most? The approach to the Lost City of the Roman Empire and the naturality with which Edward Bulwer-Lytton tells us the stories of all the characters: you never doubt about their being real people. Some descriptions are really as you were there, looking around.
